HCVS (Kaohsiung Municipal Hai-Ching Insustrial & Commercial High School) is located in the old town of Zuoying, a site rich with cultural heritage due to its frequent historical activities. For this project, the Yuri Studio team collaborated with the school to launch a campus tour app using AR technology. The app aims to gamify the campus experience, helping students and staff gain a deeper understanding of the school’s historical background and cultural significance.
The app contains 10 tour checkpoints, which include: the South City Wall section, HCVS Old School Gate, Qing Dynasty Buildings on campus, Japanese Navy Shinyo Special Attack Unit Air-Raid Shelter, HCVS First Graduation Group Photo, School History Room, Base of the Kodama Gentaro Statue, HCVS Old School Gate, Aerial View of West Self-Help Village, and Fengshan Old City South Gate. Students can explore these checkpoints using the app’s map and AR markers scattered across the campus. A leaderboard tracks each user’s performance, encouraging healthy competition and providing a reference for relevant course grades.

Large-scale outdoor games often suffer from navigation challenges, where players struggle to locate checkpoints or waste effort moving back and forth. The navigation map in this app integrates AR navigation guidance, using markers in the augmented reality view to direct users to the optimal viewing point for each location (within a 10-meter margin of error). Additionally, iBeacon push technology delivers 2D/3D interactive effects and features corresponding to each of the 10 tour points. When users pass by, the relevant effects automatically appear, greatly enhancing the user experience and improving the flow compared to previous similar activities.
To promote the app and increase participation, we also created physical souvenirs. Using corrugated cardboard as the material, students can assemble a 3D puzzle of a World War II fighter jet. By scanning a QR code, they can make the 3D model appear in AR within the app, allowing them to fly the jet or play shooting mini-games, combining creativity with AR technology.
