According to Research And Markets, the global sports market is projected to approach 600 billion USD by 2025. Taiwan, with its strengths in ICT and a leading global market share in sports equipment OEM/ODM, is well-positioned to expand its presence in the sports tech industry. In this project, we partnered with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop the “iGolfoReality High-Fidelity Multi-Player Remote Interactive Golf System.” Through virtual courses, dynamic greens, and interactive digital avatars, players can experience the joy of playing on a real golf course—all from the comfort of being indoors.
After players strike the ball using a physical golf club on the sensor platform, the camera captures the player’s swing and the ball’s flight path. The computer then simulates the ball’s trajectory, landing spot, and interaction with the terrain, achieving a seamless blend of virtual and real-world elements. Unlike other virtual golf software available on the market, the “iGolfoReality High-Fidelity Multi-Player Remote Interactive Golf System” features real-time remote connections, allowing multiple players to compete in the same virtual venue. Players can create or join games through the room system, choosing different courses and environmental settings. The project also incorporates digital avatar technology, capturing players’ swing postures through cameras and synchronizing these movements with their virtual avatars. This allows players to compete against each other in the form of their digital avatars on the virtual golf course.
The “iGolfoReality High-Fidelity Multi-Player Remote Interactive Golf System” offers two gameplay modes: “Spectator Mode” and “Competition Mode.” Spectator Mode follows official golf rules, where the player with the fewest strokes to reach the hole wins, including penalty strokes in the calculations. Competition Mode is more lighthearted, offering themed environments such as medieval windmills or circuses, where players must navigate obstacles. The first player to sink the ball into the hole wins.
