Boundaries: Tsàu-Kha — Interactive Visual System Design

The kitchen is the most familiar, and yet the most complex of spaces. It carries love — and it carries constraint.
Boundaries: Tsàu-Kha is a new media work co-created by Chang Yen-Tzu and Fan Tso-Yi, presented at U-108 SPACE, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. For this project, YURI collaborated with Yeles Studio, contributing the software development — encompassing the construction of a real-time handwriting recognition system and AI image generation technology. Taking its title from the Taiwanese word tsàu-kha (灶跤, kitchen), the work weaves together new media technology and performance art to probe the space between female identity and the mother-daughter bond — where deep love and constraint coexist.
In this work, every audience member becomes a participant in the narrative — the words they write are transformed in real time by the recognition system into flowing imagery, becoming part of this collectively conjured boundary.

Technical Intervention: How Words Become Images

Before entering the exhibition, visitors respond to the artists’ prompts by writing personal reflections on kitchens, family, and memory. The real-time text-image recognition system built by YURI Studio captures these handwritten words and, combined with AI image generation, instantly translates them into visual and sonic language projected across the circular panoramic space.
Each act of writing triggers a unique image fragment. Each visitor’s presence reshapes the work anew.

The Dancer in the Room: Body, Text, and Image in Three-Part Resonance

Live dancers perform within the space as visitor-generated imagery unfolds in real time around them. Within the enveloping arc of the circular panoramic environment, movement, text, and projection layer into a multi-dimensional field of perception. Sound flows from far to near; images drift and shift across curved walls. The weight of dance and the warmth of written words meet here — together constructing a boundary that resists description, yet is unmistakably present.
